I wanted to make a closet for Emma's American girl doll clothes, so I did a simple search online to see if I could get any ideas.
Katie's closet--printer box, plastic tube, and white contact paper. We need to make another one! I have plans for a bigger one out of a shelf . . . I'm not sure who's enjoying this more.
A hour or so and many You Tube videos later, Emma and I spent two hours building a house for Katie and making her "stuff." We found tons of videos online, done by girls, who make things for their dolls and create rooms and homes for them. This was right up our alley, and we had a blast.
This is just the start. We have since added a couch (yellow shoe box with tissue paper), a bubble bath (blue tub shaped container filled with cotton balls), and redesigned the bathroom. I have plans for a better kitchen, some food, and an office--Emma is specifically requesting a laptop (I printed the components tonight and was able to include a screen shot of her Webkinz account). We went through the Barbie stuff she never plays with and found a brush and a toy we could use as a DS, and Emma had an eraser in the shape of an iPod.
I think the thing I like best about our new endeavor (besides getting to spend some good time with her) is that Emma is actually playing with her doll. This morning, she put the robe and slippers on her, walked her over to her tub, and then dressed her again. Katie spends a lot of time watching the TV Emma made, so we'll have to make sure some other stuff to lessen her screen time (I think Santa is going to bring her a horse or a friend).
Owen is being very good and not really messing with anything, though he looks longingly at it. Maybe we'll make him an ocean for his sea creatures.
